Local Planning Authorities success rates for planning appeals

Every spring the Planning Inspectorate publish the number of appeals decided by LPA in the 12 months ending 31st March. The figures for 2021/22 for every local planning authority in England are listed alphabetically below.  To see whether your LPA is above or below average, the averages for England as a whole are:

When interpreting your LPA’s figures, bear in mind it will reflect the year's mix of developments for that local planning authority. For example, major developments of >10 dwellings generally have higher success rates than minor developments involving less than 10 dwellings and this can give LPAs with a number of large developments a higher overall appeal success rate. Similarly, a higher proportion of hearings & inquiries may also lead to a higher overall % appeals allowed.

Obviously, the % allowed is less reliable as a guide when there is only a small number decided.  The larger the number of appeals decided, the more useful the statistics are in building a picture of the LPA's likelihood of success.
