When interpreting your LPA’s figures, bear in mind it will reflect the year's mix of developments for that local planning authority and the proportion of hearings & inquiries. Obviously, the % allowed is less reliable as a guide when there is only a small number decided. The larger the number of appeals decided, the more useful the statistics are in building a picture of the LPA's likelihood of success.
To check whether your LPA's percentage of appeals allowed is above or below average, the national averages for England for 2022/23 are 29% for s78 planning appeals, 35% for householder appeals and 27% for enforcement appeals quashed or granted planning permission.
